HD or High Definition cameras are a recent breakthrough in video security technology. Four different protocols exist today, all capable of running HD camera signals over conventional RG59 or RG6 wiring. RG59 and RG6 is better known to you as coaxial or cable wire. The same wire used for your cable TV or antenna wire; this wire was very limited until recent innovations.
TVI, CVI, SDI & AHD are all acronyms for the new technology of transmitting High Definition signals over the coaxial wires. All four technologies have their limitations and qualities as well as price points. SDI for instance is the best image quality but it is the costliest and can only transmit for short (250′) distances. The other three technologies are similar however.
While Pro Video Security uses primarily TVI for its installations, we have supply chains for all four versions. We find TVI is the most popular and hence we feel the chance of the technology disappearing, leaving you without support and product replacement options a problem.
